Citizen Science: Dragons in Your Neighborhood

2:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Learn all about the strange and fascinating lives of dragonflies with Long Island Preserve Director, Nature Conservancy and self-described dragonfly-geek, Kevin Munroe. We’ll look at many of close-up photos, talk about bizarre behavior and impressive adaptations and most importantly, learn how to find and identify them! We’ll end with tips on attracting and studying dragonflies in your neighborhood, including some citizen science interactive apps and websites like Odonata Central and Dragonfly ID. No previous experience or knowledge is required. This event is recommended for ages 10 and up, and families are invited to participate. Please download the Dragonfly ID phone app and visit OdonataCentral.org before the event and be on the look out for any aquarium nets, kitchen strainers, or sieves around your home that could be used as nets to catch nymphs, especially if they have handles (no shopping necessary -- these items are just suggested).

Register by emailing Kerry Wininger. Zoom meeting details will be sent to you upon registration. Each participant should register separately. Registration is free.
