Autumn 2020 Planning Series

At the end of this year, SSU will submit a resilience assessment, organized along the five indicators outlined in the President’s Climate Leadership Commitment (‘Commitment') signed by Dr. Judy Sakaki last year: 1) Social Equity & Governance, 2) Health & Wellness, 3) Ecosystem Services, 4) Infrastructure and 5) Economy. Over the past year, we have culled through a variety of assessments on various aspects of these indicators, which have been completed over the past decade (we've found thirty such studies to date), to create a draft regional resilience assessment.

In partnership with community experts, we are refining this assessment and starting to determine how our partnerships can further these goals through a weekly discussion series on Tuesday mornings 9-10am starting September 29 and running through November 24, 2020. Weekly topics follow:

October 6:  Strengths/Assets that support resilience
October 13: Climate Change Related Vulnerabilities - hazards, impacts, and exacerbating factors
October 20: Indicators of Resilience - Social Equity & Governance
October 27: Indicators of Resilience - Health & Wellness
November 3: Indicators of Resilience - Ecosystem Services
November 10: Indicators of Resilience - Infrastructure
November 17:  Indicators of Resilience - Economy
November 24: Initial Opportunities Between Campus-Community to Increase Shared Resilience

Please RSVP via this link. Zoom details will be sent upon registration. Please note which weeks you will be able to join. We will open the Zoom room at 8:50 for casual conversation, so we can start our resilience conversation right @ 9am. Bring breakfast, coffee, whatever keeps you engaged first thing in the morning as we embark on a journey leading to greater resilience.
