Sustainable SSU has an opening for one paid internship and opportunities for additional unpaid internships to assist with the strategic communications of Sustainable SSU. We are looking for enthusiastic and environmentally-minded student interns to help coordinate and communicate activities and generate excitement for sustainability on campus and in the local community. The right individual(s) will create a master calendar with ideas and activities, reach out to student groups and clubs, share information on social media platforms and prepare communications for the campus community and beyond. Preparation for Earth Week events in April 2023 will also be a priority. We want this intern to help us guide the direction of Sustainable SSU and help engage the campus and community at large. Job Functions:
The primary goal of the position is to improve awareness and involvement in Sustainable SSU activities undertaken by Sonoma State students, staff and faculty. The intern is responsible for all aspects of news content, including identification, investigation, documentation, and content for news stories for the Sustainable SSU website and social media accounts.
Job Description:
Work includes creating, maintaining and updating a year-round calendar of relevant events, promotions and educational postings, research for stories, creating posts on social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Reels, Twitter, and possibly YouTube, among others), following relevant accounts for re-sharing purposes and ideas, learning about sustainability related events both on and off campus (attending meetings, searching online, maintaining regular communication with key contacts on and off-campus), maintaining a list of those events, and sharing news with the Sustainable SSU website manager. Identifying possible speakers/activities for Earth Week 2023 as well as helping to promote the Sustainability Pledge by reaching out to engage students. Weekly meeting with the office supervisor to discuss the calendar and plans.
Skills:
Successful applicants will have great communication skills, social media experience including using template services (like Canva or Adobe Spark) to build social media posts, photography and video and more traditional forms of communication, managing spreadsheets and database maintenance. They must be highly-responsible and organized, have good verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and knowledge of media ethics. Graphic design skills and interest are an added bonus as we want to consider a rebrand. Practical experience is preferred, but not required.
Work Location:
On and off campus. Meetings may be via Zoom or in person.
