2:00-2:10 Introductions & Announcements

  • Welcome to AS representatives: Claudia Mayo (Zero-Impact), Abbey Serio (Strategy, Adv. Comm), Madison Hayes (Academics), and Molly Clemons (Resilience)
  • Climate Safe CA Webinar Series - The Climate Center - the path to net-negative emissions by 2030 in California
  • Cool California - provide resources to help all Californians reduce their environmental impact and be part of the climate change solution

2:10-2:30 Campus-wide Update

  • Feb 19 Cabinet Presentation - Working Group Chairs presented the PCLC accomplishments and an overview of the sustainability snapshot. Enthusiastic response. Well received.
  • 2021 Spring Semester All-Employees Sustainability email was sent out.
  • Second Nature’s Climate Action Pursuit - 10 seats for faculty and staff; 20 seats for students. Second Nature is replacing their annual in-person meeting with four virtual conferences: February 24-26, June 10-11, October 7-8 and December 9-10. They are taking advantage of the recurring meeting dates to encourage participants to form "Knowledge to Action Teams" that meet during each conference to set goals, take action and report back. Together, they are calling these events "Climate Action Pursuit 2021."

2:30-3:10 Working Group Highlights

  • Zero-Impact Highlights (Megan, Dana)
    • Spring Goals
      • Complete background and accomplishments sections in Climate Action Plan
      • Complete carbon reduction & resiliency goals in Climate Action Plan
      • Work with carbon neutral vendor to complete assessment by April 2021
    • STARS report - submitted (proposed Silver) - Thank you Alicia! (Once confirmation received should be included in NOMA Newsletter, website, social media and A & F division newsletter - please communicate to Alicia to get announcement made)
    • EcoShift - Started weekly meetings with contractor to develop carbon neutral portion of CAP. They are very professional and experienced. They asked question about the kitchen food waste. Nancy Keller replied that they have a pulper that grinds left over food, napkins, etc. Grinds it up and shoots it out into bins that go to composting. Currently gets mixed with other compostables. Nancy is going to check on usual volume created so that we can give to EcoShift to determine if an aerobic digester is an option for campus.
    • Sustainable Event Guidelines (Kindra; Kelsey) - Kelsey in Event Services is working on a sustainable event guide. Events that meet those guidelines will receive a badge to brand their event. This can contribute to STARS rating.

      • Resilience Assessment Release and Upload to Second Nature - Claudia to deal with
      • Develop Regional Resilience WG membership
      • Draft Elements of Community Engaged Resilience Action Plan
    • Resilience Assessment Summary - Working on summary document that lays groundwork for inviting participation from community. Will be completed April 5, 2021.
    • North Bay Forward - Speaker series delayed due to Assessment Summary work. First presentation will be April.
  • Academic & Student Life Highlights (Mark)
    • Spring Goals Sustainability
      • Minor: set SLOs, enrollment projection, call for coordinator, choose eligible classes, finalize capstone course
      • Recruit Faculty to Post Research / Instructional Presentations on Website
      • Contribute to Earth Week and Sustainability Career Fair - Mark is reviewing past submissions, engaging Faculty

    • Working on learning objectives and number of students (25-30 minors is possible)

      • Finalize Sustainable SSU promo mark - Julia is hopeful there will a “warmer” version of what we are looking for to brand sustainability work
      • “Green corner” in NOMA News to start in March issue - sustainable type message - information what’s happening “on” campus, factoids, etc. Campus newsletter for all students, faculty and staff
